American
governmental, business and media organizations face daunting communications difficulties in today’s world. Language
barriers, of course, are the primary hurdles. Potentially
more treacherous, however, are problems arising from organizational
inexperience and naiveté in connection with cross-cultural
interactions.

Advanced
Language Services (ALS) specializes in bridging both
linguistic and cultural obstacles to efficient operations
in multicultural environments. International relations—which
typically include an intercultural relations component—is
a key element of any successful endeavor in the global
arena. |
ALS
has the expertise to facilitate effective communications across
language barriers while fostering greater understanding between
interacting diverse cultures in the global environment. Our
executive leadership and operational managers have compiled
an impressive record of successful performance supporting
both private and public sector projects impacted by cultural
and linguistic factors. Examples of our range of experience
include:
-
The invaluable role our cultural experts and linguists
play in enhancing the realism and authenticity of the
predeployment training U.S. military units receive prior
to assuming duties within the U.S. Central Command area
of operations.
- The
accurate and timely interpretation of Middle Eastern news
reports for various U.S. governmental departments and
American news agencies.
- The
translation of complex motion picture scripts for various
entertainment industry projects.
From
our founding in 1995 through early 2003, ALS’s business
focused on translation and interpretation services. During
this period, our employees participated in some of the highest-profile
translation projects in the world, including translation of
the infamous bin Laden tapes.
Beginning
in 2003, changing world conditions compelled us to expand
our operations to include the provision of linguists to fill
civilians-on-the-battlefield role-play positions in support
of military training scenarios, and cultural subject matter
experts (SME) to support cultural awareness training programs
for U.S. military troop leaders. Our SME effectively advise
top military commanders on culturally-based issues at all
security levels. With the SME’s assistance, these commanders
have come to understand the sensitive cultural conditions
within their respective areas of responsibility and the potential
impact of those conditions on both combat operations and civil-military
affairs.
